I had read good reviews of the Hannabach 815s so I was anxious to try them. What I didn’t know was their “tension classification” is very different from other makers (e.g., D’Addario, Savarez, Ramirez, etc.). I put on the medium tension strings and could tell immediately they were significantly higher tension.
I did some research, and Hannabach’s are much higher tension than similarly classified strings from other makers. The Hannabach MT is higher tension than the D’Addario EJ46 (high tension), big difference! The Hannabach SLT (super low tension) is equivalent to the D’Addario EJ45 (medium tension). So, I removed the Hannabach 815 MT set and put on some spare D’Addario EJ45s.
All that said, the limited exposure I had to the Hannabach 815 MTs makes me think they have a lot of potential. So, I ordered a set of the 815 SLTs and will write a review of them once I try them out.
